Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd, is a Joint Venture company between Hiap Teck Venture Berhad (HTVB) and Shougang Group of China with total paid-up capital of Ringgit Malaysia RM 200 million as at 1st August 2012.
Hiap Teck Venture Berhad, was listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on 2nd September 2003, is one of the leading steel company in Malaysia with headquarters in Klang, with 6 factories / warehouses occupying 65 acres of land, HTVB is an organization that driven by its vision and mission dedicated to meet and to satisfy customers’ needs.
Eastern Steel’s foreign partner - Shougang Group of China, was established in the year 1919 in Beijing, China. Shougang is one of the China’s leading steel companies, with its business diversity in Iron and Steel Making, Mining, Machinery, Electronics, Architecture, Real Estate, Services, Overseas Engineering Contracting and Trade. In the year 2011, Shougang was ranked number 325 on Fortune’s Global top 500 companies with total annual revenue of 34.6 billion US Dollars.
Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd’s current 1.8 billion project for 1.5 million MT of production capacity - The Integrated Steel Mill Complex with land size of 1200 acres located in Teluk Kalung, Kemaman, Terengganu, with Blast Furnace Project Plan as part of its upward integration plan which comprises: a Material Handling System, Coke Oven Plant, Sinter Plant, Blast Furnace Plant, Blast Furnace Top Pressure Recovery Turbine (BPRT), Blowing System, Iron Caster and Dry De-dusting system, Converter with Ladle Refining Furnace, Slab Continuous Casting Machine and Oxygen Making System would have an initial annual production capacity of 0.7 million MT of steel slab upon completion of our phase 1, Stage 1 project. Upon overall project completion, being Phase 1 and Phase 2, would have a total annual capacity of about 3 million MT of steel.
As part of Eastern Steel’ pathway in achieving sustainable development, we recognize the key element for our sustainable future is through our employees by retaining the best talent possible. Apart from the Blast Furnace Project Plan in pipeline, Eastern Steel is constructing Staff Quarters with facilities which will accommodate initially up to 2000 employees of Eastern Steel, located conveniently only minutes away from the Integrated Steel Mill Complex. Our strategic involvement in building up partnership with TATI University College and Shougang Institute of Technology (SGIT) offering our undergraduates Comprehensive Courses in the Iron and Steel Making Industry.
On top of that, we offer Industrial Training Programme in various business areas aimed at maximizing the potential of our young talents and preparing them to face the huge global challenges.
