Project happened in the company (To the latest progress).

Hi all, in this article, I will briefly show you the progress and some supervision as well as some management in the project. My supervisor had arranged me to assist a senior in the supervision of this project. The project details are shown as below:

Master plan of the project:


At the very beginning, site investigation work has to be carry out to obtain information on the physical properties of soil and rock around the site to design earthworks and foundations for proposed structures and for repair of distress to earthworks and structures caused by subsurface conditions.


Above picture show the soil investigation work at site.

The designed ground level for the project is 4.2m above the sea level and it is obviously that the back fill work required because the original ground level was only 0.7m in average. Total estimated volume to back fill for the project is five hundred thousand cubic meter. The main vehicle used in back fill work are dump truck, excavator, bulldozer and road roller.

Next, piles driven work has to be carry out as the soil around the site have a low bearing capacity to support imposed load. Therefore, piles are needed to transfer the load onto a deeper layers with higher bearing capacity.


Pegging of pile points at site based on the designed pile points drawing plan. The pegging work is carry out by using a total station to determined the point and peg.

Mobilization of piles driving machine to site and setting up of piling machine work.

Transfer of piles into site by lorry. Then, the piles were carry to place at site by using crawler crane.

Piles driven work in process. Piling machine carry up the pile and inserted in to the hammer then driven it into the pegged point.


Welding of joint between piles when more than one piles need  to be driven in a point.

After piles driven work done for the specified building of the project, letter of handover needed to prepared by Civil department and signed by four parties including the piles driven contractor, the project contractor, consultants and the clients for the next stage of work to be carry out. Number and location of piles drove must be checked and verified by the 4 parties before the signature process occurred.

When the above step done, subsequent work can be carry out which is the excavation of the area for pile cap work.

The 80mm of lean concrete work for the foundation. Piles reinforcement bar with plate making to put in the piles hole for connection with foundation above it. Normally the length of the reinforcement bars is 1.5m long and using Y20 type bar. The reinforcement bar will put in the piles at this time too.

Next, concreting of reinforcement bar in piles hole is done. The grade of this concrete is G20.

Then, pointing out line of foundation and reinforcement work started followed by form work installing work as shown in the photos above. The main reinforcement bars used are Y25 and Y20 while the stirrups use Y8 bars.

 After the reinforcement work and form work installing work done, the contractor will ask us (client) and consultant to do the specification inspection work based on the designed plan. Concreting work will be started after the work got verified.


Example of readymixed concrete delivery order from supplier to the contractor. The grade of ready-mixed concrete used is G30.

The foundation done after concreting work. Curing work will be carry out for the foundation by watering it for 3 days for an adequate strength.


The above shown is a boiler foundation in the 55MW power plant project. There are currently 16 foundations in the project and 1 foundation have been done, 1 in the progress and another 2 in the process of excavation.
